Microsoft EU-EFTA Licensing & Pricing Policy update

Important changes to the Microsoft volume licensing price list from July 1 2012.

You may remember earlier this year Microsoft informed its partners and customers of Europe-wide changes Microsoft would make to its pricing policies for its volume licensing programmes* effective July 1st 2012.  In February, Microsoft explained it had to make changes due to sustained currency differences in the EU/EFTA region between Euro and Non Euro currencies.

At the time, Microsoft said that this was likely to result in price list adjustments in the UK and Switzerland. In February it wasn’t possible to predict the nature of the changes Microsoft needed to make and promised customers and partners it would provide another update in May. At the time, Forrester wrote about these changes and this blog provides a good 3rd party perspective on Microsoft’s pricing policies and these changes.

On May 1 Microsoft published a preview of the UK volume licensing price list to its partners. The preview shows that in the UK, there will be an average increase in £Sterling prices on Microsoft’s price list for volume licensing programs of between 7.5% and 33.5%. The price changes will come into effect on July 1 2012 and Microsoft partners will continue to determine final price and currency to customers for all indirect volume licensing agreements.

It is important to note that certain Microsoft volume licensing agreements contain price protection clauses so will be unaffected by any price increases for the duration of agreement and you will review pricing at your next renewal with us.

Price protection clauses are found in the following volume licensing programs: Enterprise Agreement/Enterprise Subscription Agreement Open Value/Open Value Subscription + Companywide versions of this agreement and Online Services acquired through the Microsoft Online Subscription Program -Annual Subscription).

These changes are significant. Our goal in communicating this to you now is to provide you with visibility to the change and so we can discuss any impact to your business.

These changes to do not impact FPP Retail, OEM products or Academic UK volume licensing programmes.
